Come mai F16? principalmente la scelta è motivata da Unity e dall’impossibilità di eseguire con efficenza Gnome3 su Ubuntu. Gnome3 non è la panacea ma lo preferisco, anche se sento dire in giro sui blog che le prossime release assomiglieranno a Unity (vero? spero di no…). D’altro canto l’abitudine fa fare cambiamenti insospettabili. Forse con i nuovi e prosssimi schermi touch Unity ci sembrerà una bellissima interfaccia!

Per usare Gmail dobbiamo abilitare popmail nelle opzioni di Gmail.

Fetchmail è il programma che si usa per scaricare la posta dai server remoti. Msmtp è un Mail Transport Agent. Procmail è un Mail Delivery Agent.  Per usare Gmail con Fedora abbiamo bisogno dei programmi openssl e ca-certificates e del comando c_rehash.

1)  Scarichiamo il ROOT CERTIFICATE

Il server Gmail POP3-over-SSL (pop3s) presenta un server certificate per ogni connessione secure-socket-layer (SSL). Dobbiamo essere in grado di verificare la sua autenticità.  Il  server certificate è esso stesso autenticato da una certificate authority (CA), Equifax Secure (now GeoTrust), usando un self-signed root certificate avente il nome  “Equifax Secure Certificate Authority”  (OU). Scarichiamo quindi il root certificate.
$ cd /etc/ssl/certs
$ sudo wget -O Equifax_Secure_Certificate_Authority.pem \ https://www.geotrust.com/resources/root_certificates/certificates/Equifax_Secure_Certificate_Authority.cer
$ sudo chmod 644 Equifax_Secure_Certificate_Authority.pem
$ openssl x509 -in Equifax_Secure_Certificate_Authority.pem \ -fingerprint -subject -issuer -serial -hash -noout

2) Scarichiamo i certificati di Google

Creiamo i due file vuoti da riempire con i comandi:
$ sudo touch /etc/ssl/certs/gmail.pem
$ sudo touch /etc/ssl/certs/equifax.pem

Scarichiamo i dati da inserire nei due file appena creati con:
$ openssl s_client -connect pop.gmail.com:995 -showcerts

Con copia e incolla creiamo due file incollando i dati che si trovano tra:
-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----
-----END CERTIFICATE-----

ATTENZIONE. La prima zona di dati a video andra’ in gmail.pem, la seconda in equifax.pem.
Per editare i files vi consiglio gedit o emacs.

Quindi avremo tre files: gmail.pem, equifax.pem e Equifax_Secure_Certificate_Authority.pem
Diamo a questo punto il comando:

$ sudo c_rehash

c_rehash crea links simbolici ai files con i nomi dei valori hash.

3) Configuriamo msmtp

Se non è installato installatelo (solita procedura).

$ touch $HOME/.msmtprc
$ touch $HOME/.msmtp.log
$ chmod 0600 $HOME/.msmtprc
$ gedit $HOME/.msmtprc

4) Configuriamo fetchmail

Se non è installato installatelo (solita procedura).
$ sudo gedit ~/.fetchmailrc

dove username è il nome utente della sessione

Diamo il comando:
$ chmod 600 ~/.fetchmailrc

con cui il file è leggibile solo dal proprietario

5) Configuriamo Procmail

Se non è installato installatelo (solita procedura).

$ gedit ~/.bashrc

Spegazione del recipe wpresente nel file: intercetta ogni cosa relativa al “mutt-user” e la manda a $HOME/Mail/mutt.

Create il Mail folder:

$ mkdir $HOME/Mail

6) Configuriamo MUTT

Se non è installato installatelo (solita procedura). Per l’editing delle mail io uso emacs quindi installate emacs
o altro editor di testo.

$ gedit ~/.muttrc

A questo punto dovrebbe essere tutto configurato per l’utilizzo di Mutt. Mutt è utilissimo, si può usare
anche da riga di comando.

Provate a dare il comando:
$ fetchmail -v

e benvenuti in Mutt..!!:-)

NOTE FINALI. La procedura è ok sto utilizzando Mutt da poco e non ho verifiche sul suo corretto utilizzo anche se mi sembra tutto ok.

Versione autunnale

Questo articolo guida va benissimo anche con Ubuntu 11.10, Mutt è un client di email testuale usabile in tante situazione ed estremamente veloce.

Importantissima guida su Subversion. Si dice in ogni dove che è fondamentale ma nessuno spiega bene come si usa. Questa guida è fatta benissimo e (forse) mi/ci aiuterà MOLTO a tenere in ordine i files su SOURCEFORGE
